The New BMW F 850 GS Adventure: Travel enduro made for explorers.
The New BMW F 850 GS Adventure features a masculine body design. Its larger windshield can be adjusted in two stages, while the hand protectors provide increased wind and weather protection. The new mid-sized cc endure now also features a new upside-down telescopic fork with aluminium double-sided swinging arm with central spring strut for an even more sensitive response over terrain. Other new additions to the motorcycle include LED headlamps as well as full connectivity through its multifunctional instrument cluster which features a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen.
For added riding comfort, ergonomics on the BMW F 850 GS Adventure have been optimised especially for off-road riding. Owners can also rely on the wide enduro footrests, adjustable shift and foot brake levers for a comfortable ride, which comes as standard along with engine protection bars and a stainless-steel luggage rack. The fuel tank has been placed in the classic position between the seat and the steering head for improved centre of gravity.
The New BMW F 850 GS Adventure embodies a new, powerful and reengineered two-cylinder in-line engine to achieve a significant increase in power and torque. The engine displacement is now 853cm3 as a result from a bore of 84mm and stroke of 77 mm. The New BMW F 850 GS Adventure generates 95hp at 8,250rpm and a maximum torque of 92 Nm at 6,250rpm to deliver supreme engine performance, all of which enables a top speed of 197km/h. The cylinder head of the New BMW F 850 GS Adventure contains two rotating overhead camshafts driven by a tooth belt, which operate four rocker arm-operated valves per cylinder.
The engine crankshaft now has a 90-degree crankpin offset and a 270/450-degree ignition spacing to achieve a powerful and emotionally appealing sound. Vibrations are also absorbed by the new engine’s two counterbalance shafts. Power transmission of the New BMW F 850 GS Adventure has also been subjected to complete reengineering. The primary drive arrangement on the right side of the engine is responsible for transmitting the torque from the crankshaft to the clutch by means of spur gears. This is now designed as a self-amplifying anti-hopping clutch (wet clutch) which leads to a significant reduction in engine drag torque.
Power transmission comes from the reengineered six-speed gearbox that is now positioned on the left side of the motorcycle. It now transfers torque with an optimised transmission ratio spread to the secondary drive on the left, in the form of an X-ring chain. By positioning the secondary drive on the left side, the exhaust system of the New BMW F 850 GS Adventured has now been positioned on the right side for optimised comfort.
To ensure a high level of safety, the adventure motorcycle offers “Rain” and “Road” riding modes as standard complete with BMW Motorrad Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and the Automatic Stability Control (ASC). While in “Rain” mode, the throttle response is configured to be soft, while in “Road” mode, the engine permits an optimum throttle response. The ABD and ASC control systems, on the other hand, are configured for ideal performance on all road conditions.
In terms of suspension, the new steel bridge frame in monocoque design on the New BMW F 850 GS Adventure increases robustness and riding precision. It also integrates the two-cylinder in-line engine as a co-supporting element and offers benefits in terms of torsional rigidity and robustness. The New BMW F 850 GS Adventure holds 23 litres of fuel and enables a range of over 550km.
The New BMW F 850 GS Adventure is fitted with cross-spoke wheels with aluminium rim rings and a size of 2.15 x 21 at the front and 4.25 x 17 at the rear. The adventure motorcycle is equipped with enduro street tyres as standard and also available in Rallye style for the Malaysian market.

Optionally, the Riding Modes Pro feature additional riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro, Hill Start Control Pro and the new Dynamic Brake Assistant (DBC). Especially in banking position, the DTC enables even more efficient and safe acceleration, while the ABS Pro offers greater braking safety. The new DBC offers greater braking safety in difficult situations by avoiding unintentional accelerator activation.
The air/liquid-cooled two-cylinder 4-stroke boxer engine has been refined with BMW ShiftCam Technology on both the New BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure which enables a whole new level of power and torque. The new engine also offers improved emissions and fuel consumption levels, complete with a particularly satisfying sound. The BMW ShiftCam Technology enables variation of the valve timings and valve stroke on the intake side. Additionally, the intake camshafts are designed for asynchronous opening of the two intake valves, resulting more effective combustion. The Shift Assistant Pro is available as standard to enable upshifts and downshifts without the use of the clutch or throttle valve. The RDC system with tyre pressure monitoring is also available for both models.
The capacity of the New BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure have been increased to 1,254cc. They now have an increased output of 136hp at 7,750rpm and develops a maximum torque of 143Nm at 6,250rpm. The New BMW R 1250 GS Adventure is capable of a top speed of more than 200km/h. On the other hand, the BMW R 1250 GS has a top speed of 200km/h. Both the adventure motorcycles consume only 4.75l of fuel for every 100km.
Unlike their predecessor models, the New BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure have a knock sensor system in the form of two knock sensors. This allows the use of fuels with a rating of less than RON95 – a particular advantage when travelling in the more remote corners of the world. Both the motorcycles are also fitted with a new digital engine control called the BMW-O. Its main features are fully sequential injection, a compact layout and low weight. Carburetion is carried out by an electronic fuel injection system via throttle bodies with an opening width of 52mm. Injection is via the new twin-jet injection valves that support even greater refinement and further improved emission levels of 110g/km.
The New BMW R 1250 GS will be available in the Style HP and Style Exclusive variant, while the New BMW R 1250 GS Adventure will be available in Ice Grey and Style HP.
